How to know when it’s time to replace your roof

Having a solid roof over you to protect your home is essential.

IN SOME CASES YOUR WORN ROOF MAY JUST NEED THE SHINGLES REPLACED; IN OTHER SITUATIONS, AN ENTIRELY NEW ROOF MAY BE NECESSARY.

Before giving a call to a licensed contractor to receive a professional opinion, run these 4 tests to see if your roof likely needs to be replaced.

  1. Consider The Age of Your Current Roof

If you do not know when the last time your roof was replaced look into obtaining this information. If your roof is only around 15 years old, you likely just need to replace any damaged tiles or slate.

  1. Examine Your Shingles to See if They Are Curling or Cracked

If you can spot only a few tiles cracked in a specific area after storm damage, this is not a cause for great concern; they can simply be replaced individually. However, if you’re seeing cracks throughout your entire roof, this is among the clearest signs that your entire roof needs replacing.

  1. Check to See if Your Roof Is Sagging

Sagging roofs are nothing you should ever wait to address. Sagging roofs commonly indicate structural damage and warrant immediate action. The sooner you act, the easier it will be to resolve this issue and address localized causes. If you see a drooping or depression in your roof, odds are the structure of your whole roof needs to be fixed.

  1. Look into Whether or Not You Can See Sunlight from Your Attic

Checking for cracks throughout your attic is the easiest way you can tell whether or not your roof requires at least some repair work, if not a replacement altogether. If light can creep through your attic so can rain, snow, and other outdoor elements. Determining whether you need patchwork or an entirely new roof isn’t always clear, so this is where calling an expert can be incredibly helpful.
